The workshop is aimed at life science students and researchers interested in learning to program in the Python programming language. You will get help with the first steps and prior knowledge of computer programming is not required. The workshop will teach the basics of programming in Python, which is not only a suitable language to start with  but is arguably one of the most used computer languages in scientific computing in various scientific areas including bioinformatics (http://www.nature.com/news/programming-pick-up-python-1.16833).

The aim of the course is to develop a simple program (script) and on the way learn about variables, basic data types (string, integer, boolean), ways to control the flow of the program (if/else) and usage of loops (for) to automate repetitive tasks. Please note that this is a hands-on workshop and that you will spend the bulk of the time solving exercises, so you are expected to bring your own computer and should have Python 2.7 installed (get it at www.python.org).

Workshop will be held in Lecture room Z4 at the Biotechnical Faculty, Department of Food Science and Technology, Jaminkarjeva 101, 1000 Ljubljana

Workshop led by dr. Luka Ausec, Genialis (SLO)
